Wood Shelves Renovation

This one is a fun one and I take a lot of pride because I did it by myself… Well, almost. I’ll explain…

My kitchen was looking nice and beautiful after I installed all the backsplash but the wall around the window was a bit too blend and boring for me, so I decided to get some shelves. After I found a pair online for $322, I decided to create them myself.

As you can see in the “before” photo, It wasn’t bad but it needed some love. I went to Home Depot and I bought a 12x12x16 wood board, I gave them the size I need and they cut it for me.

Found 36” floating shelves online selling for $322 (set of 2). Well, I decided to make them myself instead! Went to @homedepot, got a 12x2x16 board for $46 and I got 6 shelves out of it. Home Depot cut them perfectly for me, for free. I then sanded and pre stained it with a wood conditioner from @varathane. Then I stained with a wood finish from @minwaxusa (color: special walnut 224). I then quickly finished with sandpaper to make them smooth and finalized the process with a polyurethane wood finish. It looks like a lot of work but it’s very easy and worth the time!

VOILA! Here is the final results and I love these so much. It made the room a bit more complete!

The decoration pieces should be listed on my Amazon storefront and my LTK account, feel free to check it out. Most of these decor pieces are from Amazon, Target and Walmart – the collection is called Better Homes and Garden.

I cannot wait to redecorate these with Pumpkins for Fall and other Holiday Season items. Stay tuned, soon I will be sharing my little girl’s bedroom make over. Next!
